Overview
This course gives a general understanding of the requirements and responsibilities that employees have in respect of health and safety at work. It also highlights the additional responsibilities that an employer has to work with you to ensure a safe working environment. This course contains ongoing assessment to demonstrate that an employee understands the material.
Chapter 1: What is health and safety about?
The chapter begins by setting out the content and format of the course and then goes on to highlight the importance of everyone working together to ensure a safe working environment. The chapter then moves into the main body of the course with Section One, which explores the question of what health and safety is all about.
Chapter 2: The law
This chapter shows how health and safety in the workplace is underpinned by the law of the land. It goes on to highlight and explain what the law expects of employees and employers with regard to health and safety at work.
Chapter 3<: Hazards and risks/h2>
Although this chapter is mainly about health and safety in an office-type environment, it gives the learner a good understanding of the general hazards and risks associated with most working environments.
Chapter 4: Safe use of equipment
This short chapter does what it says on the tin - it covers the safe use of workplace equipment, particularly in an office-type environment, and explains to the learner how to use the equipment in a more ergonomic way. And guess what? You're excused a quiz at the end of this short section of the course, and you don't even need a note from your Mum!
Chapter 5: Fire
This chapter covers potential hazards that can cause a fire, the fire triangle (which describes the three things a fire needs to exist) and then goes on to cover emergency procedures that need to be in place in case of fire or any other emergency that requires the building to be evacuated.
Chapter 6: Accident reporting and first aid arrangements
In this final chapter of the course, we cover workplace procedures for such things as accident reporting and first aid arrangements.
