Overview

This course gives the learner an excellent understanding of the importance of infection control in a healthcare environment. It covers the three main stages that are crucial for effective control of cross-contamination and control of infectious bacteria and viruses - hand hygiene; personal protective equipment; and the safe use and disposal of sharps.


  • The reasons behind the need for infection control
  • Identifying the three main areas of activity within infection control
  • Procedures for hand hygiene, personal protective equipment and disposal of sharps (in other words, used needles and the like)
  • And, will look closer at two of the main causes of concern regarding infectious agents within healthcare

    The prevention and control of infection is an integral part of the role of all healthcare personnel, because patient safety is of the highest priority within the National Health Service.
